Sometimes there is something you need, but you just don’t have access to it. If you have something of equal value, you can trade it into the ship without the regular markup of the vending machines. For instance, if you really need a 10 chip strip of titanium to finish off your new body armour, but only have a 10 chip bundle of carrots, you can trade those at the Captain’s Assistant’s office at no additional vending cost.
A caveat to this exists. Each Rotation, if your total lateral trades exceed 50 chips in value, there will be a 10% service charge (rounded up) per 50 chips of transaction. For example:
| Cost of Goods Traded In | Cost of Goods Received |
|---|---|
| 50 | 50 |
| 51 | 50 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 1 * 0.1 ) = 1 |
| 60 | 59 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 10 * 0.1 ) = 1 |
| 100 | 95 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 50 * 0.1 ) = 5 |
| 101 | 90 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 51 * 0.2 ) = 11 |
| 150 | 130 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 100 * 0.2 ) = 20 |
| 151 | 120 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 101 * 0.3 ) = 31 |
| etc… | |
Note: The material you want must be available in a ship’s vending machine in order for you to make the trade. We don’t have any more ‘in the back’.
