With this License, you are now permitted to use your RIG to examine inorganic resource deposits for valuable materials that might be stored within. Simply activate the scanner on your RIG, and pass it over the deposit. Repeatedly using your RIG to scan will result in Scanner Heat, which is explained in the RIG section of the rules.
In addition to being able to scan resources, you are Licensed to scan and maintain Technology “Points-of-Interest”, or POIs. When you find something of interest that you can scan, it may require some action on your behalf. Not all POIs require action, but if they do and you perform the activity, you will receive a reward from either your Department Head or the Captain’s Assistant’s Office.
Out of Game (OOG)
When you find a scannable substance, there will be a QR code somewhere on the prop. In addition to role playing scanning the resource you will need to use the scanning app on your RIG to scan the QR code. After the timer completes, you will be informed of what the resource is. If you scan a QR code you are not Licensed to scan, you will be prompted with a warning that informs you this action is illegal and may result in Brig time if you’re caught. For more rules on how RIGs work, please see this page.
POIs are represented using a QR code that you will need to scan using the Essex App. Some POIs are obviously keyed towards one Pillar or another, but when in doubt, the app will warn you if you’re going to scan something you’re not Licensed to scan. If you abandon the attempt once you see the warning, there will be no in-game legal consequences. Some POIs will require more Licenses than the Tier 1 License of your Pillar. If so, you will be unable to complete the POI unless you have someone with the appropriate License assisting you. Both of you will need to report for the reward so that you can prove you were both Licensed to perform the activity.
