Greetings Occupants, We are pleased to announce the first of our 2025 playtest series! It will be held on May 18th, from 12 to 6 pm, in the events room of 730 Hillsdale Ave E. This playtest will have an admission cost of $5 to cover the cost of the venue, and if you’d like to contribute in other ways, we’re also accepting donations from the list linked below!
For this playtest, we’ll be focusing on the scanning system and points of interest. All you’ll need is your phone! We would appreciate if you created an Essex account and character before the playtest, but our well-trained* staff will be more than happy to assist you, if you don’t have this done beforehand. Check-in will be conducted from 12 to 1 pm, we’ll run the playtest proper from 1 to 5 pm, then we’d appreciate your assistance in closing everything down from 5 to 6 pm. We’d also love it if you joined us for some food and socializing afterwards at The Local, located at 180 Laird Drive!
Long Live The Emperor! Long Live The Empire!

What will you do when the FTL drives run dry and we’re billions of light years from the rest of the Empire?
Empire 6 is a brand new LARP located in southern Ontario. It’s still entirely in the pre-alpha stages of play testing, but we are working towards launching our first full game in 2025. The setting is intended to be a sci fi western with inspiration taken from Firefly, Trek, BSG, and many others.
With a strong focus on political intrigue, world building, and survival, we’re hoping to give the power to our players to decide how this small space station on the fringes of known space, completely cut off from ‘civilization’ will evolve.
The space station “Empire 6” is located on the outer edges of the universe. A week before our game begins, the Empire of United Species (EoUS) announced that the metal used for Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel is gone. All existing sources of the material have been consumed and whatever people, governments, and organizations have remaining is all there is.
A cruise ship, formerly used as a tourist vessel for visiting Empire 6, has brought on any willing passengers and is bound for the space station. The crew will be using what fuel they have remaining to return to their families. You are on that ship. There will be no going back.
Picture any sci-fi show you’ve ever seen. Each one has a subtle but majorly important element in common. In every one, there’s some sort of widget, gadget, or other hand-held device that a character will hold up to whatever problem they’re facing and will see information that’s relevant to what they need in that moment.
For us, this is the “Essex” web app. When you log into the website, you will see your Occupant Profile, scan points of interest during the game, review the economy, book shuttles, register for jobs, and much more. Your phone is your “RIG” (Remote Inspection Gizmo) and is an in-game item as much as your stim packs or your body armor.
We are a community. Each and every LARPer shows up to events to have a good time, role play, hang out with their friends, and to tell great stories. Our goal is to lift our community up. We want to tell the greatest stories and while we may go home exhausted and emotionally spent, we want everyone to count the days until our next event. We want to explore topics that can be challenging but do so in a respectful way.
In order to do that, we have the following values:
