Licenses

In the Empire, it's not about what you're capable of. It's about what you are Licensed to do.
Read more about that Here.

Agriculture Tertiary

Gatherer
Pillar Agriculture - Tier 1
Time Required Variable, min: 30 seconds

When exploring planetside or on some special astral bodies, you might come across exotic plants, fungi, or other organic matter that can be scanned and harvested for use in crafted goods back in Ag-Sec. The Gatherer License permits you to legally scan agricultural substances you will find either on-ship or during Away Missions.

In addition to scanning for organics, you are Licensed to scan and maintain Agricultural “Points-of-Interest”, or POIs. When you find something of interest that you can scan, it may require some action on your behalf. Not all POIs require action, but if they do and you perform the activity, you will receive a reward from either your Department Head or the Captain’s Assistant’s Office.

Out of Game (OOG)

When you find a scannable substance, there will be a QR code somewhere on the prop. In addition to role playing scanning the resource you will need to use the scanning app on your RIG to scan the QR code. After the timer completes, you will be informed of what the resource is. If you scan a QR code you are not Licensed to scan, you will be prompted with a warning that informs you this action is illegal and may result in Brig time if you’re caught. For more rules on how RIGs work, please see this page.

POIs are represented using a QR code that you will need to scan using the Essex App. Some POIs are obviously keyed towards one Pillar or another, but when in doubt, the app will warn you if you’re going to scan something you’re not Licensed to scan. If you abandon the attempt once you see the warning, there will be no in-game legal consequences. Some POIs will require more Licenses than the Tier 1 License of your Pillar. If so, you will be unable to complete the POI unless you have someone with the appropriate License assisting you. Both of you will need to report for the reward so that you can prove you were both Licensed to perform the activity.

Smallholder
Pillar Agriculture - Tier 2
Branch Granger
Requires Gatherer

Smallholder grants you legal permission to do the following actions within the Agriculture Sector (Ag-Sec) department:

  1. Rent Smallholder Plots - technologically improved to quickly grow plants on-ship without the need to transport down to a planetoid’s surface
  2. Purchase basic seeds from the ship’s Vendings - More advanced seeds can be found on Away Missions or developed using a proliferator.
  3. Plant seeds for later harvest - Most plants take around an hour to grow, though some may take longer. It takes 10 minutes to plant a seed.
  4. Harvest plants - You may harvest plants in Ag-Sec that you have planted. This takes one minute.

Smallholder Plots come in 3 durations: Short-Term, Medium-Term, and Long-Term rentals. Short-Term rentals last for the entirety of the current Assembly (Event). Meaning if you rent it right after going through customs, your rental will expire at the end of the Assembly. Similarly, if you rent it 3/4 of the way through the Assembly, it will still expire at the end of the Assembly. Medium-Term rentals last 2 Assemblies. Long-Term rentals last 4. You do not need to rent all of your plots at once. You could rent one first thing in the morning, and then rent more in the afternoon.

The cost to rent Planter Boxes is determined based on the size of the plots rented, and the number of that size plot rented simultaneously. It is recommended that if you need a lot of plots running simultaneously, working as a group will keep costs low. Please see the following chart:

Chip Cost per Number of Simultaneous Rentals per Person
Plot Rental 1 Plot 2 Plots 3 Plots 4 Plots 5 Plots etc…
Short-Term 1 2 3 4 5 (1)x
Medium-Term 2 4 6 8 10 2(x)
Long-Term 4 8 16 32 64 2X

Renting Smallholder plots can be performed in Ag-Sec.

Out of Game (OOG)

There is a Primer that comes with each seed on the requirements to grow it. Often, you only require a seed bundle and time. Sometimes there are additional resource requirements. Almost all seeds will grow over the course of 1 real-time hour on their own once planted, but some may require additional effort. Certain seeds may require longer grow times, which may extend past the duration of a single Assembly.

Farmer
Pillar Agriculture - Tier 3
Branch Granger
Requires Smallholder
Time Required 5-10 Minutes

The Farmer License gives you legal permission to utilize the ship’s Proliferator machine. This machine is used to improve existing seeds by genetically adjusting them. You will be able to perform experiments on seeds to attempt to breed stronger and better plants.

Out of Game (OOG)

This process does not always guarantee results and will destroy the seeds experimented on. Please keep this in mind when using the Proliferator.

Hypodermic Fabricator
Pillar Agriculture - Tier 2
Branch Pharmacist
Requires Gatherer
Time Required 10 Minutes to plant, 1 minute to Harvest

Using the correct materials in the correct amounts can yield medicine that will bring someone back from the brink of death. The Hypodermic Fabricator License lets you create the medicine pods that are used within Hypos by Doctors. Examples include:

  • Medicine used during Emergency Aid
  • Medicine that will assist with treating certain Afflictions
Chemist
Pillar Agriculture - Tier 3
Branch Pharmacist
Requires Hypodermic Fabricator

Not all Stimulants are government legal, but for the ones that are, the Chemist License lets you create them. Examples include:

  • Stellar Energy - Used by Technologists to fabricate faster.
  • Doc Spritz’s Pain Reliever - Used by combatants to ignore bodily injury for a short time.
Corps Tertiary

Combat Specialist
Pillar Corps - Tier 1

Being Licensed as a Combat Specialist allows you to wear any type of body armour. Body armours are designed to reduce incoming damage from various weapon types. The body armour item tag will tell you what type of weapon it’s designed to stop and how effective it will be.

This License does not include things such as respirators, analytical visors, or other equipment used to augment your non-combat experience. Equipment governed by this License will include the key word: “Body Armour” on it to provide clarity.

Squad Member
Pillar Corps - Tier 2
Branch Command
Requires Combat Specialist
Time Required 10 minutes

Working as part of a Squad is better than working alone. When you are Licensed to work as a Squad Member, you can spend 10 minutes training with up to 9 other Occupants in order to form a Squad. All squads are capable of performing Simple Squad Maneuvers (listed in the Primers section of the Data Vault). If at least one member of the Squad has the Military Strategist License in their Grid, you may train to perform Maneuvers outside of the Simple Squad Maneuvers list. Maneuvers sometimes have unique requirements to practice them and will be listed on the Maneuver Primer. Every squad member will need to meet those requirements to drill that maneuver.

Squads remained formed for the duration of one Assembly. If you wish to leave your Squad, simply tell your squad members that you’re leaving. Any Maneuvers you’ve practiced with them are now no longer usable by you until you re-join their squad and re-drill the Maneuver. Joining another Squad requires additional time and training.

Occasionally, a Maneuver will require a minimum number of Squad Members. If you leave your Squad and they no longer have enough members to perform a Maneuver they practiced, they will be unable to perform that Maneuver until another person has joined the Squad and they have practiced the Maneuver again. For example: “Breach” requires 4 squad members to pull off the maneuver successfully. At least 4 squad members will need to be present at the time of action in order to successfully perform a Breach.

Some Maneuvers can only be performed once per Rotation (12-hour period), while others can be performed repeatedly. The Maneuver Primer you reference during your training will outline any restrictions.

When drilling, each member of the Squad must spend any required resources and the time listed on the Squad Maneuver Primer in order for them to participate in performing a Maneuver later.

Military Strategist
Pillar Corps - Tier 3
Branch Command
Requires Squad Member
Time Required Variable

Squads are only as strong as their training. As a Licensed Military Strategist, you are capable of conducting training to get your Squad ready to perform Maneuvers outside of the Simple Squad Maneuvers list. Once you have drilled with your Squad for the required time, they can perform that Maneuver as a Squad according to the specifications on that Maneuver’s Primer.

Out of Game (OOG)

There are currently no Advanced Maneuvers. We are working to add these to the game. This License does not provide any benefit at this time.

Commander
Pillar Corps - Tier 4
Branch Command
Requires Military Strategist

While each Squad is capped at 10 members, Commanders can work to combine the efforts of multiple Squads together. With each Squad present and attentive, you can spend 10 minutes to combine the Squads into a Platoon. Up to 5 Squads can be joined in this way. The Commander must be a member of one of the Squads.

Each Squad still maintains its own Maneuvers, but the Commander can provide special orders to the Platoon that otherwise would not be available. These orders are kept in special Primers only available to a Commander once they have acquired this License. It is up to the Commander to teach their Platoon what the orders are and how to carry them out effectively.

Out of Game (OOG)

There are currently no Commander Orders. We are working to add these to the game. This License does not provide any benefit at this time.

Camera Operator
Pillar Corps - Tier 2
Branch Media Representative
Requires Combat Specialist

When you want to broadcast a mission back to the ship, you need a Licensed camera operator. It’s always good to provide proof that the mission went exactly as you described it. More importantly, it’s important to give the med bay a heads up when there are 6 bodies coming back to the ship in various states of bleeding.

Being a camera operator makes you non-combative, but gets you a free ride. When you register for a flight, if you have the Camera Operator License on your Grid, you will not be charged for your ride, but you will also not be permitted to bring weapons with you. If you participate in combat for any reason, you will be charged a flight fee. This includes administering medical aid during an active combat situation.

A primary benefit to being a camera operator is that if you stream your team’s actions back to the ship’s video feeds, you will be paid a stipend based on the type of mission the team went on. These stipends are to be determined on a per-Assembly basis

Frontline Journalist
Pillar Corps - Tier 3
Branch Media Representative
Requires Camera Operator

Requests to report facts from the front line might not always come in. Sometimes, you need to find the story yourself. Frontline Journalists are Licensed to perform the role of reporting during combat situations, but also have a pair of notable exceptions. They are truly neutral representatives, and they are allowed to publish their work in the form of written reports shown on Essex, or as televised broadcasts.

As a truly neutral representative, Frontline Journalists are granted a special dispensation. A symbol, declaring them as a journalist, can be worn openly both on and off the ship. This symbol marks you as ‘more profitable to ransom than kill’ and any sentient species in the outer rim knows that capturing you is more valuable than killing you. If you’re out on a mission and it goes sideways, the pirates on the other side won’t kill you. That is, of course, as long as you’re neutral (not assisting your team).

Publishing your work requires you to have created it. If you write an article, or develop a video, the Empire will publish it on Essex, or if appropriate, on the ENN broadcasts that are shown on-ship.

Out of Game (OOG)

You will need to have your content approved by a staff member to ensure it meets our Community Standards, but otherwise, we will not edit it in any way. As long as it’s appropriate for the game, we will approve it. Additionally, if you create videos that are in-genre, we can assist with some assets to make it easier, and we will put your recordings ‘on the air’ as it were.

Talking Head
Pillar Corps - Tier 4
Branch Media Representative
Requires Frontline Journalist

There comes a time when you need to stand in front of the camera to really dive deep into the issues. For those brave enough to be both on the front lines and sit down with the opposition, you might be ready to be a Talking Head.

Talking Heads are the ones who interview important people. They don’t necessarily have to be on the front lines, but oftentimes the most important conversations are held outside of the board room. You are Licensed to interact as a neutral party in situations where you might otherwise be at the end of a gun.

Sometimes, you will even receive invites to sit down with relevant people. These situations can be scary as anyone can extend an invite, but even in the outer rim, extending an invite to interview is respected as a non-combat situation.

If your interview is televised to the ship, you will receive a payment appropriate to the situation. Sometimes, multiple people with the Talking Heads License will be invited and it will become a panel interview. The commission will be split amongst the attendees.

Brawler
Pillar Corps - Tier 2
Branch Weaponry
Requires Combat Specialist

You are Licensed to carry simple weapons. These include, but are not limited to: Swords, Axes, Cudgels, Staves, and other medieval style melee weapons as well as modern objects like pipes, wrenches, baseball bats, etc.. Note, these weapons are not allowed to be used outside of Away Missions. Anyone found with an unsheathed weapon, regardless of Licensing, on the Coopertino will be thrown in the Brig without question.

Soldier
Pillar Corps - Tier 3
Branch Weaponry
Requires Brawler

Like Brawler, this License grants you the right to carry weapons. However, Soldiers are trained in the use of firearms such as Shotguns, Rifles, Pistols, and other more modern ranged weapons. Anyone found with an unholstered weapon, regardless of Licensing, on the ship will be thrown in the Brig without question.

Out of Game (OOG)

It’s important to note that firearms are handled uniquely at Empire 6. While guns are cheap, bullets are a tagged item and are not cheap. For every bullet fired, you will need to turn in the related Consumable item tags after combat has completed.

Medical Secondary

Medic
Pillar Medical - Tier 1

The beginning License for medical personnel. Medic lets medical professionals administer hypos to any living being as well as order medical equipment from the Vendings. Hypos are Consumable Items that have the key attribute “Hypo” on them. Examples of hypos are:

  • Limb Restoration Hypo - restores limb to the ‘Functional’ state
  • Emergency Measures Hypo - brings a living being from the ‘Dying’ state to the ‘Functional’ state

Please see the ‘Administering Medical Aid’ section of the rules for how to use hypos and perform combat-based medicine.

In addition to providing medical aid, you are Licensed to scan and maintain Medical “Points-of-Interest”, or POIs. When you find something of interest that you can scan, it may require some action on your behalf. Not all POIs require action, but if they do and you perform the activity, you will receive a reward from either your Department Head or the Captain’s Assistant’s Office.

Out of Game (OOG)

Intake Analyst
Pillar Medical - Tier 2
Branch Long-Term Care
Requires Medic
Time Required Minimum 5 Minutes

Using your RIG and a series of questions, you are able to spend a few minutes examining a patient. If that patient is under the effects of any Afflictions, you are aware of all of them and the severity of the Affliction(s). For some basic Afflictions, standard medicine (ex: consumption of Consumable Items) might be all it takes to provide aid. You are Licensed to provide medicines with the key attribute “Basic Affliction Treatment” to patients.

Physiotherapist
Pillar Medical - Tier 3
Branch Long-Term Care
Requires Intake Analyst
Time Required 10 minutes for Mild, 20 minutes for Severe Affliction

While some issues can be fully cured with medicinal attention, the body sometimes just needs time to heal to prevent further injury. During that time, you’ll need to ensure that you keep up your exercises to ensure you heal correctly.

Physiotherapists can address any Affliction that is physical in nature, such as a torn rotator cuff, or a sprained ankle through a complex action called “Treat Affliction - Physical”. After spending the requisite time in session, one level of severity is removed from the patient’s relevant Physical Affliction. If the patient has multiple Physical Afflictions, only one is treated at a time, even if they share the same or similar name.

Out of Game (OOG)

Remember that ongoing Afflictions may only be treated once per Assembly. Any further treatments, while nice for the patient, will not serve to solve a problem that needs time as well as direct attention.

Mental Health Specialist
Pillar Medical - Tier 4
Branch Long-Term Care
Requires Physiotherapist
Time Required 10 minutes for Mild, 20 minutes for Severe Affliction

Mental Health Specialists are authorized to treat Afflictions with the key attribute “Mental” such as ‘VR System Shock’, ‘Seen too far into the Dark’, or ‘Gambling Addiction’ using the “Treat Affliction - Mental” complex action. After spending the requisite time in session, one level of severity is removed from the patient’s relevant Mental Affliction. If the patient has multiple Mental Afflictions, only one is treated at a time, even if they share the same or similar name.

Out of Game (OOG)

Remember that ongoing Afflictions may only be treated once per Assembly. Any further treatments, while nice for the patient, will not serve to solve a problem that needs time as well as direct attention.

General Surgeon
Pillar Medical - Tier 2
Branch Physician
Requires Medic
Time Required Variable

The General Surgeon License allows you to utilize ship equipment to perform any surgery found in the Surgical Procedures repository.

Certain surgeries require the patient to have a specific Physiology and will not work if performed on the wrong body type. If you attempt to perform surgery on a patient outside that Physiology, the surgery will fail due to the patient’s anatomy not lining up with your goals. For example: it’s hard to remove an appendix from a species that doesn’t have one. If you perform a medical procedure intended for a specific Physiology on someone having a different one, there may be one or several consequences. Depending on the severity of the mistake, this could mean being banned from using medical equipment for an Assembly, a murder charge, or other punishments.

When performing a Procedure, please refer to the primer for information about resource costs, time requirements, and other information for carrying them out.

Out of Game (OOG)

At this time, there are no Surgical Procedures available to player characters and this License provides no benefit. Once we have ‘unlocked’ the procedures in game, this License will be updated accordingly.

Advanced Anatomist
Pillar Medical - Tier 3
Branch Physician
Requires General Surgeon
Time Required Variable

Sometimes it’s not enough to simply repair an existing body. With the Advanced Anatomist License, you’re qualified to build upon existing infrastructure.

There are incredibly rare Primers that describe the process for splicing genes, implanting technology, and even transplanting organic parts from one species to a theoretically incompatible other species. These Primers are not available in the Data Vault at this time, but are generally hoarded by various wealthy individuals.

While no special dispensation is required to possess this License, we highly encourage any who go down this road to know that it is dangerous. Patients have a high risk of death and if there is not incredibly good documentation explaining how they accept the risk, you will be held culpable.

Out of Game (OOG)

At this time, there are no Advanced Anatomist Primers available to player characters and this License provides no benefit. Once we have ‘unlocked’ primers in game, this License will be updated accordingly.

Statecraft Secondary

Solicitor
Pillar Statecraft - Tier 1

Once you have the Solicitor License, you have permission to post advertisements and bills on the ship’s public messaging boards. These advertisements must be reviewed by the ship HOST prior to them being public, but if they are tasteful, respectful, and non-inflammatory, there is relatively no limit to the subject matter that can be posted.

In addition to being a solicitor, you are Licensed to scan and maintain Statecraft “Points-of-Interest”, or POIs. When you find something of interest that you can scan, it may require some action on your behalf. Not all POIs require action, but if they do and you perform the activity, you will receive a reward from either your Department Head or the Captain’s Assistant’s Office.

Out of Game (OOG)

Merchant
Pillar Statecraft - Tier 2
Branch Commerce
Requires Solicitor

While for most, it’s easy to procure goods and services, selling them is quite a bit more difficult. To sell any type of equipment back to the Ship, or to any non-Occupants (NPCs who exist outside Empire rule are not Occupants), you need the Merchant License. Simple trades between Occupants are not governed by the Empire, but formal methods of Commerce are strictly regulated.

To sell goods back to the ship, speak with the Captain’s Assistant at the CAO and they will be able to assist you. Provide proof that you hold this License in your active Grid, and they will begin negotiations. There will be a simple markup to the price. This is the cost of doing business at the lower tiers!

Lateral Vendor
Pillar Statecraft - Tier 3
Branch Commerce
Requires Merchant

Sometimes there is something you need, but you just don’t have access to it. If you have something of equal value, you can trade it into the ship without the regular markup of the vending machines. For instance, if you really need a 10 chip strip of titanium to finish off your new body armour, but only have a 10 chip bundle of carrots, you can trade those at the Captain’s Assistant’s office at no additional vending cost.

A caveat to this exists. Each Rotation, if your total lateral trades exceed 50 chips in value, there will be a 10% service charge (rounded up) per 50 chips of transaction. For example:

Cost of Goods Traded In Cost of Goods Received
50 50
51 50 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 1 * 0.1 ) = 1
60 59 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 10 * 0.1 ) = 1
100 95 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 50 * 0.1 ) = 5
101 90 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 51 * 0.2 ) = 11
150 130 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 100 * 0.2 ) = 20
151 120 - Service Charge = RoundUp( 101 * 0.3 ) = 31
etc…

Note: The material you want must be available in a ship’s vending machine in order for you to make the trade. We don’t have any more ‘in the back’.

Stock Broker
Pillar Statecraft - Tier 4
Branch Commerce
Requires Lateral Vendor

Within the local systems around Empire 6, there is a relatively small and volatile stock market. It consists of local businesses and political organizations in the system that look for ambitious investors to buy and sell stocks that’ll help them grow. While every Occupant can see the stock ticker board, the Stock Broker License grants you access to purchase and sell stocks. Funds are withdrawn from your Essex bank account to perform the transaction, along with a small fee.

While it would be considered market manipulation to influence stock prices directly, the Empire has no laws against working with an organization to make it more profitable. If you or your crew invest time and effort into helping a business, their stock prices might just grow as a result!

Out of Game (OOG)

At this time, the stock market has not been implemented fully and it is not available during the game. This License currently does not have any in-game usage. We will update the License and the community when it becomes available.

Party Affiliations
Pillar Statecraft - Tier 2
Branch Politics
Requires Solicitor

You are investing your time and efforts into the political parties of the Universe. With this License, you are now permitted to join one of them. As such, you may attend meetings of the party and benefit from any policies that have been passed within the party. Please note: While you do not have this License on your Grid, you are still a ‘member of the party’ and may attend meetings as well as benefit from policies affecting members of the party, but in order to have joined the party, you will have had to have been legally added to the party by an Organizational Leader while the License was equipped in your Grid. You can only be a member of one political party at a time.

To join a political party, speak with your local politicians to determine when and where they meet. Attend the meeting and seek induction into the party. Every party is allowed to have their own induction ‘ceremony’, but there is a minimum of 5 minutes of role play required. To leave a political party, simply attend a regular meeting of your party and announce that you will be leaving the party. Additionally, if you become a criminal, your party may hold a vote to expel you, but this can only happen if you’re convicted of crimes by Ship Security.

Out of Game (OOG)

Any ‘political policy’ outside of being the Occupant Representative is a purely role-play benefit at this time. Occupant Representative explained in the “Organizational Leader” License.

Public Speaking Rights
Pillar Statecraft - Tier 3
Branch Politics
Requires Party Affiliations

Aboard the ship, there is a public speaking podium. People with the Public Speaking Rights License are allowed to rent out 15 minute blocks of time to speak at the podium and address people within the Cantina, the most public place on the ship. A single person is forbidden from registering two rentals that occur back to back. The Filibuster was abolished over 1000 years ago. We have no intention of bringing it back.

You are free to rent the Podium any number of times within a Rotation (12-hour period). However, the cost is exponential for each purchase. Please see the following table:

Rental Cost
1 (First) 2 Chips
2 (Second) 4 Chips
3 (Third) 8 Chips
4 (Fourth) 16 Chips
Etc…
Organizational Leader
Pillar Statecraft - Tier 4
Branch Politics
Requires Public Speaking Rights

Once you are Licensed to become an Organizational Leader, you are allowed to be the head of a party. Regardless of if you are a Citizen, if you are the head of a political party, you are granted the right to vote in any election.

Running a political party is no easy task. In addition to the responsibilities of running the party, the Organizational Leaders run in an election every 6 Assemblies to be the head of the Occupant Government. All Citizens vote to elect a single Leader who will speak with their voice to the government (OOG: Speak from players to staff) and the platform that leader stands on. The Organizational Leaders work with their party and the ship staff to come up with a platform policy that will take effect once they are in power. These policies are negotiable and are intended to give the Occupants and Citizens an opportunity to bend the rules of the Empire for the duration of their leadership.

For example: an Organizational Leader might run on a platform of reducing the cost of all ship’s vending machines by 2 Chips. If voted in, this would allow all Occupants of the ship to take advantage of the policy, even if they are not a part of the political party.

Creating a Political Party: Let’s say that you decide the existing parties are not for you and you wish to start your own platform. This is to be encouraged! Every voice should be heard and if your representatives won’t cut it, become your own voice.

To create a political party, there are some OOG restrictions as well as IG requirements. OOG, your party can not be exclusionary. Any character of any species with the Party Affiliations License equipped to their Grid who is not a criminal (either currently in the Brig or actively under investigation by the Ship Security for crimes committed) is required to be inducted if they seek entry. You are not forbidden from willingly inducting criminals into your party. This is simply written, but is subject to change based on both OOG and IG needs for inclusivity and avoiding themes of discrimination.

The steps to create a party are:

  1. You must be a Citizen
  2. You are required to register your political party ahead of time with Ship Security. Go to the CAO and request a Political Party Creation Form and fill it out.
  3. Ship Security will review your application form and work with you to ensure that the party meets OOG and IG requirements.
  4. After you are approved, we want to encourage themes of ceremony and pageantry. Find a way to announce your party in a grand way! This will help communicate your party’s existence and get new members to join.
Technology Primary

Surveyor
Pillar Technology - Tier 1
Time Required Variable, min: 30 seconds

With this License, you are now permitted to use your RIG to examine inorganic resource deposits for valuable materials that might be stored within. Simply activate the scanner on your RIG, and pass it over the deposit. Repeatedly using your RIG to scan will result in Scanner Heat, which is explained in the RIG section of the rules.

In addition to being able to scan resources, you are Licensed to scan and maintain Technology “Points-of-Interest”, or POIs.

Tradesperson
Pillar Technology - Tier 2
Branch Fabrication
Requires Surveyor

Getting access to the Replicator is important to anyone who wants to create complex devices. Being a Licensed Tradesperson allows you to rent time on the ship’s replicators. Oftentimes, people specializing in other Pillars will seek out a Tradesperson to assist them in their own projects. The ship’s replicators are heavily monitored for what is created using them to ensure the safety of everyone on board.

Certain Primers will have “Requires: Tradesperson” on one or more steps. If so, someone with this License is required to access the Replicator and perform the desired task. Materials can be entered into the Replicator by hand, or can be withdrawn from your Essex accounts.

A single person with this License can only rent one replicator at a time and must attend it for the entire duration of the fabrication process. You can rent a replicator as often as you like, but if you do so more than once per Rotation, the costs go up. Please refer to this table for costs:

Rental Cost
1 (First) 2 Chips
2 (Second) 4 Chips
3 (Third) 8 Chips
4 (Fourth) 16 Chips
Etc…
Remote Inspections Engineer
Pillar Technology - Tier 3
Branch Fabrication
Requires Tradesperson

The RIG is an invaluable tool that has brought incredible resources to the hands of everyone in the Empire. However, RIGs are made to suit the lowest common denominator of needs among Empire Occupants. Not everyone needs a high-powered scanner or a robust medical examination tool. A Remote Inspections Engineer License shows you’ve been trained on how to make adjustments to the basic device and improve RIGs.

With specialized Primers, you will be able to tweak and improve the performance of RIGs. For example: some improvements could increase scanning speeds while others could expand the features of the RIG itself. You will need to examine the appropriate Primers to know the breadth of options available to you.

Currently, there are no RIG improvement Primers available in-game and as such, this License does not provide in-game benefits. When we add these Primers to the game, we will update this License and inform the Community.

Defense Contractor
Pillar Technology - Tier 2
Branch Military
Requires Surveyor

Military equipment is a highly controlled resource on Empire 6. For most Occupants, there’s no need for this type of equipment. With this License and the appropriate Primer, you are permitted to construct and repair armour as well as construct and maintain melee weaponry.

Arms Dealer
Pillar Technology - Tier 3
Branch Military
Requires Defense Contractor

Like Defense Contractor, Arms Dealer lets you create military equipment. Creating arms is highly controlled and anything you create will be closely monitored and recorded by Security. All new weapons are given a custom serial number and ownership documents are kept by Security for tracking.

Arms Dealer lets you construct and maintain guns as well as creating bullets for guns. While guns are fairly easy to construct and have, the ammunition for them is much more difficult to come by.

Systems Administrator
Pillar Technology - Tier 4
Branch Military
Requires Arms Dealer
Time Required Variable

There are times when a simple username and password aren’t enough to gain access to a system. For that, there are Empire-sanctioned Systems Administrators. To them, no system can’t be cracked.

There are two ways to use this License. One is on a computer or system that you are trying to breach. The other is to gain access to information found within the Essex profile of another person. Regardless of the hacking target, you will have distinct activities that you will need to perform.

If you are Licensed to access systems you don’t own, you are also Licensed to acquire and possess certain files that assist in breaking into them. These files contain access credentials, code crawlers, or other ‘helpers’ that are intended to make the job of cracking a system easier. If you do not have this License equipped and those lists are found on your person or within your RIG, you will be fined, put in the Brig, or both. To some, these files are more dangerous than a shotgun during happy hour in the Cantina. If you have them and do not have this License equipped, you may submit them to a special quarantine process during customs check-in and will not be penalized for it. Your belongings will be returned to you after the Assembly.

Out of Game (OOG)

To utilize this License on a computer or terminal, scan the QR code associated with the device you are trying to get access to using your RIG. Sometimes, this QR code will not be obvious so you might need to look for it. This process is very similar to interacting with POIs. From there, you can use relevant items to break any encryption the computer might have.

To utilize this License to hack a RIG, there is a completely different process. Each hacking program comes with information such as how good it is at hacking, what information you will gain, and other details that will help guide your next steps. Once you are in possession of a hacking program, you will be able to find it in your RIG. We have thematically chosen to make the location not-obvious, so you will need to click around in the app to find out how to hack.

Once you have found the program, you will need to follow a series of prompts. At the end of your hack, the results will be one of the following:

  • Your hack fails and the target is not alerted that someone tried to hack them
  • Your hack fails and the target was alerted that someone tried to hack them
  • Your hack fails and the target was alerted exactly who tried to hack them
  • Your hack succeeds and you gain one or more ‘static’ pieces of information about them. This information is specific to their attributes at the time of the hack. For instance: You hack someone to find out how many chips they have. At that exact moment, they had 22 in their bank. Your hacking report will display ‘22 chips’ whenever you look at it.
  • Your hack succeeds and you gain one or more ‘evergreen’ pieces of information about them. This is tantamount to installing spyware on their RIG. In the above example where they had 22 chips at the time of your hack, every time you look at the report of your hack, it will tell you how many chips they have at the moment you’re currently looking.
    • Note: The target will have a series of ways to ‘defend’ against spyware.
